Board to award bid for new middle school

The Board will meet this week to approve the bid on the new middle school and work will begin. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. At the same time, the Board will consider releasing bids for additions at Cook, Sale, and Stokes Beard. Attendance is up this year and these buildings require additional space to prepare for 2010 when the elementary buildings become K-5.

  1. What is the status of the board voting on the 11-month calendar? I haven't heard much buzz. I know the board wanted input, have they been getting it? Are they ready to decide?

  2. Unless something changes, the new calendar will be on the agenda for approval at our regular April meeting on Monday, April 13th. The people that I've talked with like the idea once they understand the whole approach.

  3. I personally really like the idea. My only concern is that I will only have all three of my children on the same calendar for one year. I have an upcoming 5th grader and by the time he's in 6th grade, July and Christmas will be the only time all my kids will have the same vacation schedule. I love the idea of breaks during the year, but I'd like to see it continue through the upper grades. Otherwise, the extra breaks for vacation during the year don't do me any good - I'd still have to take one or more out of school to leave town.

  4. Lori, I would think we can consider extending the calendar for the middle school. We'll see how this works and will know more how to adjust next year.
